While everyone has different cravings and vices, chocolate must be at the top of almost everyone’s list! Sometimes all you want to do is satisfy your sweet tooth, but what alternatives are available that will reduce your calorie intake?
It’s a classic dessert and for good reason. It’s sweet and healthy, and sometimes it’s all you’ll need to satisfy your cravings. If an apple doesn’t seem decedent enough, try something a bit juicier like cherries. Not only are cherries lower in calories than many other fruits, they’re packed with antioxidants and fibre as well.
Nuts, much like chocolate, contain a large amount of magnesium, a nutrient that the body needs to stay healthy. In fact, although you may think you’re craving chocolate, your body may just be crying out for magnesium, in which case nuts will do the trick just as well. Most nuts are still very sweet, but be careful–they’re also very moreish!
If nuts and fruit just won’t cut it, your next best bet will be some cereal. Although many cereals are high in sugars, they’re lower in calories than most chocolates. However, if you can go for something a little less sweet such as bran flakes with banana, all the better!
If none of the above is working for you at all, your cravings must be really bad! A teaspoon of powdered chocolate drink mix in skimmed milk should be your last resort, but you can rest easy knowing that it’s a much better alternative to scoffing down an entire chocolate bar.
