How to Keep Fit During Your Daily Commute

Keeping fit is one of the most satisfying things in the world, especially when you can see the results of your efforts. Unfortunately, you can’t come and train with us 24/7–sometimes life just gets in the way!

But even if you’re not physically at Inspire Fitness, you can still keep on top of your exercise regime. Your daily commute is a prime example of time that can be spent making small steps towards your overall fitness.

Ditch the Car

The most obvious way to make your commute healthier is to cycle or walk to work if you aren’t doing so already. A morning bike ride will wake you up so you’re fully prepared for what’s ahead, and strolling home is a great way to chill out if you’ve had a particularly stressful day.

Belly Busters

If you live too far to walk or cycle to work, as many of us do, there are still some things you can do while in the car. Belly busters will work your core and tone your abs, all while you’re sat in the driving seat. Simply breathe in and pull your stomach in at the same time, as if you’re trying to squeeze through a tight gap. Hold it for several seconds before releasing.

Spine Stretchers

If you’re sat stuck in rush hour traffic, pass the time by holding firmly onto the steering wheel and rounding your back, working out your shoulders and upper back. Again, hold this position for a few seconds and release.

At Least Ditch the Car a Little!

Even if you can’t walk the whole way, try parking further away from where you work. Not only will you get all the benefits of walking, there won’t be anymore fighting over a parking space.

Please remember if you’re doing any of these exercises, your attention and concentration should be first and foremost focussed on driving. Stay safe!
