So the Golden Globes have passed us by for another year, giving us clues as to who’ll be picking up gongs at the Oscars, and showcasing Ricky Gervais’ talents for offending celebrities. But it also marks the start of awards season, and all of the lavish gowns we’ll get to see the rich and famous wear. If you want to get ahead of the game, here are the kinds of outfit you can expect to see.
The 69th British Academy Awards occur on Valentine’s Day this year, and shortly before the Oscars, so this British ceremony normally acts as a bit of a dress rehearsal for the bigger, brasher American show. That means nothing too showy or glittery! Think along the lines of the little black dress or an elegant cocktail dress and you’re on the right lines.
The 36th BRIT Awards will again be hosted by Ant & Dec at The O2 on February 24th, and unlike the more formal TV and film affairs, the BRITs are all about being as out-there as possible. There’ll be short dresses and playsuits aplenty as stars compete to be the leggiest, and expect big hairdos as well.
Heading across the pond to Hollywood’s Dolby Theatre on February 28th, the 88th Academy Awards will honour the best films of the last 12 months, and is widely considered to be the ceremony to be at. This is where the stars unleash the big guns, with long flowing ball gowns, demure golden dresses and memorable outfits to be remembered long into the future.
